Damir Zhafyarov moves to Avangard

Avangard Hockey Club has acquired forward Damir Zhafyarov from Ak Bars in exchange for monetary compensation. The player is signed to a contract through the season allowing for further extension.

Zhafyarov has played 605 KHL games and scored 313 (129+184) points.

Anton Kuryanov, Avangard General Manager:

- Zhafyarov is a skilled forward for top-six. He will make a good addition to the team and we expect to increase competition in the first two lines and improve our power play conversion. The forward’s contract expires in April, so we agreed that we would consider the possibility of an extension. It will also motivate Damir to play his best hockey with Avangard, especially in the playoffs.

Zhafyarov will be wearing number 18 in Avangard.

Avangard Hockey Club has traded forward Igor Geraskin to Metallurg for monetary compensation.

- We have no claims to Igor Geraskin’s work or commitment. He has been demonstrating high level of preparation and professionalism since the start of the season. But things happen in hockey - it has not always been smooth. We talked a lot with Igor, he understands that 15 points in 42 games is hardly the result he himself expected. In this situation we found it necessary to meet the needs of the player and let him join the club he would be able to prove himself with. Our club, in its turn, will receive a good monetary compensation. We thank Igor for his work and wish him much success in his further career!
